Absolute Transformation of Female Limited Estates under Section 14(1) HSA, 1956:
Section 14(1) of the Hindu Succession Act, 1956 extinguishes the traditional concept of the limited estate or Hindu widow's estate. Any property possessed by a female Hindu (acquired before or after the commencement of the 1956 Act) transforms into absolute ownership with full powers of disposition. The statutory term "possessed by" includes actual physical possession as well as legal, constructive, or symbolic possession. The phrase "or in any other manner whatsoever" in the Explanation to Section 14(1) is comprehensive and covers all modes of property acquisition without limitation. Section 14(1) acts as an instrument of social amelioration to eliminate gender-based proprietary disabilities and establish equality.
