Admission criteria announced in a prospectus guide candidates

The 2024 prospectus stated that Classes XI and XII achievements would count. The revised prospectus retained that stipulation. Candidates prepared and submitted applications against the published criteria. The University later asked candidates to submit achievements from any class. That changed the zone of consideration after the application deadline. Admission authorities must administer criteria fairly and predictably. A published criterion cannot be casually altered after candidates rely on it. The Court scrutinised the change against fairness principles. Divjot Sekhon v. State of Punjab and Others | 2026 INSC 26
