Conviction cannot rest on vague and uncorroborated allegations
The appellant was linked mainly through a vague statement about driving. The allegation of direct involvement was omitted from the police statement. The vehicle evidence did not independently incriminate him. No incriminating circumstance was found in the seized vehicle. The owner-related evidence did not connect him to the vehicle. The Court considered these gaps cumulatively. It found no adequate basis to affirm the conviction. The appellant was acquitted. Jaswinder Singh @ Shinder Singh v. State of Punjab | 2026 INSC 23
